Suggestions as to leadership dissertation topics
If you are writing a leadership dissertation, you might not know where to begin. Many students have struggled with finding the right topic. But once you find the right topic, the work will begin to flow.
Consider the following topic examples and how you might be able to craft a thesis from them:
- Example 1: Coaching and Mentoring
- Example 2: Diversity and Equity Training
Research indicates that when coaching accompanies training, leaders and educators transfer a lot of what they learn, between eighty and ninety percent, into the classroom or workplace. Compare this to the mere five to ten percent that is transferred into the workplace or classroom when leaders receive only training. Leaders and educators of all experience levels will benefit from mentoring and coaching programs. They are a cost effective way to make a strong impact on achievement and productivity.
Consider what types of training is already given in a particular field and compare it with the types of coaching and mentoring that might be beneficial. Evaluate the effects, research the best and most reliable methods, and consider who should be responsible for paying for such programs? Are they viable enough that implementing them will increase productivity and profits to the point that the new profits can cover the cost of training? Should they be offered as a bonus in lieu of cash? Would employees or academic institutions respond well to such suggestions?
No person should fall behind in the work place or not enjoy the opportunity to advance because of their socioeconomic status or their race. Students should be encouraged to achieve and should be given the opportunity to advance in school too. But there nonetheless seems to exist a discrepancy between the races and the socioeconomic statuses. How can this be monitored? How can companies and schools close the gap? Will institutionalizing equity prove worth it? Is there a common standard that exists today and is it working? If not, what does research say needs to be done?
Consider all of these questions. Try and take some time to free write after you read a bit about the topic. See what pops into your mind. Look for something that interests you and might prove to be a great dissertation topic. Once you have the topic, the writing will flow. The research will be easier, and the outline will fall into place.
