Trace Analysis - TCP In-Depth
Instructor: Laura Chappell
Who Should Take This Class
IT professionals who are familiar with Wireshark but need practice interpreting
trace files pf TCP communications . Wireshark 101 is recommended as a
prerequisite.

Course Description
TCP is the basic communications used for most important network traffic - web
browsing, database access, email, file transfers, etc. In this session, Laura
takes you through various trace files of normal and abnormal TCP
communications and explains the handshake process, TCP options, window
size, packet loss and recovery, selective ACKs, timeouts, session tear down
processes and TCP reassembly. Laura shows graphs of TCP traffic that
'scream the story' of why communications are so lousy.

You Will Learn
  • The TCP handshake process - when it goes right and wrong
  • Window scaling - optimizing TCP data flow
  • Packet loss and recovery methods
  • TCP charting to spot problems

Course Notes and Supplements
All students receive a Course Notes document that depicts the slides used in
the course and the instructions for the various tasks that Laura demonstrates
during the live online seminar. This is a great after-class reference booklet!
